Çayırova

A wide plain and meadow area extending to the northwest part of Izmit Bay has been called Çayırova for a long time. It is also known as the meadow area where Mehmet the Conqueror took a break with his army during an expedition organized by Mehmet the Conqueror on May 3, 1481 and where his tent was set up. This region, which was the death place of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, gave its name to Çayırova, but remained within the borders of Gebze district with the new status.

The region, which was called the “White Church” by the Christian Greeks during the Byzantine period, was cleared of Greeks after the Ottoman Turks took over the region, and was named “Akse Village” in the Republican period. The history of Akse is thought to date back 500-550 years.

The district stands out in the fields of industry and banking.
