Dilovası

The most widely known name of Dilovası, which has been known by various names in history, is Libyssa. Dilovası, whose history is quite old, has the closest part of the Gulf of Izmit to the opposite shore. With this feature, Dilovası, which gained strategic importance for the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires, became the shortest and fastest way to reach Bursa and Iznik.

Considered one of the greatest military geniuses of all time, Carthaginian politician and general Hannibal lived in Dilovası for a while.

Dilovası joined the Ottoman lands in the 14th century. Dilovası, which has managed to carry artifacts from the three empires it hosted, is one of the districts with historical and cultural importance.
