The building, which is also known as Ahmet Çelebi Mosque because it was built by Urgancı Ahmet Çelebi, is located close to the eastern gate of Izmit. Since the caravans coming from the east are allowed to pass through this gate with customs duty, the neighborhood and the mosque are referred to with the word "baç". It is thought that the plane tree, which gives the mosque another name, was planted in the garden of the mosque in the 1870s.
