Eskihisar Castle, which was built by the Byzantines to control the south of Izmit Bay and the port, is thought to date back to the 12th century. It was restored in 1998. It is possible to come across concert events at the entrance of the castle, which is located on a steep slope within the borders of the Gebze district.
