Click for directionsFevziye Mosque, also known as Mehmet Bey Mosque, attracts visitors with its location among the busiest streets of Izmit. The building, which dates back to the 16th century, takes one of its names from the fact that it was built by Mehmet Bey of Izmit. The architect of the first version of the building is Mimar Sinan. However, the mosque was completely destroyed in the earthquake of 1889 and received heavy damage in the earthquake of 1999. It was built in accordance with the original in 2004 and reopened for worship.
