Hannibal Barca, who lived between 247 BC and 183 BC, was a Carthaginian politician and general. In memory of Hannibal, who is considered one of the greatest military geniuses of all time, a symbolic mausoleum was built in 1981, at the request of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Hannibal's life story is told in five different languages in the sections of the mausoleum consisting of five separate sections covering an area of 900 square meters. Although there are various contradictions about the manner of death, there is consensus on Libyssa, a small settlement in Bithynia, as the place where Hannibal died and spent his last days. The view that Libyssa is Dakibyza (Gebze) and that the name Libyssa has changed into "Gebze" in time is a subject that is discussed in many sources today.
