One of the first works of the architect Vedat Tek, the tower was built in 1902 by the Ottoman Sultan II. It was built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Abdülhamit Han's accession to the throne and became one of the most important symbols of the city. The entrance of the tower, which was built in neoclassical style with the use of travertine unique to Hereke and Tavşancıl regions along with marble, is located on the north facade, while there is a fountain on the other three facades. The tower offers its visitors the opportunity to get a glimpse of the opposite side of the bay with a view of the Gulf of Izmit.
