18 of the houses on Kapanca Street, which are made up of wooden structures bearing the characteristics of 19th-century architecture, have been registered and taken under protection by the decision of the Kocaeli Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board, according to the Law on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets. There is also a fountain, cistern, and school within the urban protected area. Kocaeli Press Museum on the left as you climb up the street and the Historical Bazaar right next to it are among the places frequented by visitors.
