The warship, which was built by the USA as USA Everson in 1946, was taken to the Turkish Naval Command in 1973. After taking the name of TCG Gayret, it was taken out of service in 1995 after a period of more than 20 years and started to serve as a museum on the coast of Izmit in 1997.
