The submarine USS Gudgeon, which served in the US Navy after World War II, was delivered to the Turkish Navy in 1983 and was named TCG Hızır Reis. After serving in the Turkish Navy for 21 years, it was converted into a museum ship in 2004. It continues its new duty, which started on October 29, 2004, by welcoming its visitors on the coast of Izmit.
